Myanmar Military, MNDAA Reach Historic Ceasefire with China's Mediation

The Myanmar military and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) have reached a new ceasefire agreement, effective since Saturday, following mediation by China during their seventh round of peace talks in Kunming. This agreement aims to halt ongoing violence in northern Myanmar, which has escalated since the military coup in 2021 that ousted Aung San Suu Kyi's government, leading to widespread conflict and displacement of over 3.5 million people. China's Foreign Ministry emphasized that stabilizing the region is in the mutual interest of Myanmar and its neighbors, contributing to security and development along the border. Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the ministry, reiterated China's commitment to facilitating ongoing peace talks and supporting Myanmar's sovereignty and national unity.
