The Congress party has successfully secured the presidency of the Bantwal Town Municipal Council with the support of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI). Congress candidate Vasu Poojary Loretto was elected president, while SDPI member Moonish Ali was elected vice-president, resulting from a strategic alliance that garnered 15 votes against the BJP's 13. This shift follows a recent resignation from a Congress member, reducing their strength in the council. MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta criticized the Congress for aligning with the SDPI, which he labeled as anti-national due to its connection to the banned PFI organization. The BJP expressed dissatisfaction over the alliance, claiming it reflects Congress's true political orientation. This alliance marks a continuation of previous collaborations between Congress and SDPI in the council.
