Colum Eastwood faces court over unnotified pro-Palestine march

Foyle MP and former SDLP leader Colum Eastwood appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with taking part in an unnotified parade related to a pro-Palestinian rally in Derry on February 14, 2024. The event began at the War Memorial in the Diamond area and concluded with a walk to the Guildhall. Several other individuals face similar charges stemming from the same procession. Under Northern Ireland law, organizers of parades must apply in advance for permission, which was not done in this case. Defense solicitors have requested the Public Prosecution Service review the decision to prosecute, arguing it may not be in the public interest. The case has been adjourned to June 3 for further consideration.
