Mahomes' share of first-place votes has declined to about 60% following a statistically modest 2024 season, attributed to injuries among receivers, offensive line struggles, and a less effective Travis Kelce. Despite these challenges, Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to three straight Super Bowl appearances and secured two championships. Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson rank second, third, and fourth respectively, with Allen in particular viewed as a major contender for the top spot if he can improve his playoff record. The Chiefs are aiming for a return to form in 2025 with a revamped offensive line and healthier receivers. Up-and-coming quarterbacks like Jayden Daniels are also rising, but Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, and Jackson remain the consensus leaders at the position.
