Explosion in NW Austin Injures Six, Destroys Home
A massive explosion in northwest Austin, Texas, on Sunday morning leveled a two-story house at Double Spur Loop and severely damaged a neighboring home, injuring six people, including two firefighters. The blast, loud enough to be heard miles away, caused damage to at least 24 nearby homes, with windows and garage doors blown out. Emergency responders, including the Austin Fire Department and Austin-Travis County EMS, quickly arrived on the scene, extinguishing a car fire and multiple small fires amidst the debris. Of the injured, two people from the collapsed home were critically injured, one neighboring resident was seriously injured, and two firefighters sustained minor injuries. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, but initial reports suggesting a plane crash have been ruled out. The Red Cross is assisting displaced residents, and officials are working to restore power to the area.
