Air India Crash Prompts Global Investigation and Review
Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing over 240 people in the deadliest aviation disaster in a decade. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg and Boeing Commercial Airplanes head Stephanie Pope have cancelled their attendance at the Paris Air Show to focus on the investigation, while GE Aerospace, which supplied the plane's engines, postponed its investor day and is sending a team to India to assist with data analysis. The tragedy has subdued the mood at the Paris Air Show, with expectations of delayed major order announcements out of respect for the victims. Safety experts emphasize it is too early to speculate on the cause, and Indian authorities, with international support, are leading the investigation. India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation is considering temporarily grounding its Boeing 787-8 fleet as a precaution. The crash presents further challenges to Boeing's efforts to restore public trust after previous crises.
