New Adaptations of The Great Gatsby Ballet Premiere Across U.S.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 'The Great Gatsby,' several new ballet adaptations are premiering across the United States. The New Mexico Ballet Company and New Mexico Philharmonic are collaborating on a production with an original score by composer Colin Martin, blending elements of classical Russian ballet and 1920s jazz to capture the novel's opulence and underlying social commentary. Choreographed by Kelly Ruggiero and performed live by the Philharmonic, this adaptation aims to reflect both the glamour and the tragedy of Fitzgerald's story. Meanwhile, the World Ballet Company is staging its own adaptation with choreography by Ilya Zhivoy, bold period costumes, and a jazz-inspired score by film composer Anna Drubich, aiming to push the boundaries of traditional ballet by incorporating vocal performances. Both productions strive to bring the novel’s iconic Jazz Age atmosphere and complex themes to life on stage, offering audiences a fresh interpretation of the American classic.
