Nine Inch Nails Release First New Song, Announce Tron Soundtrack

Nine Inch Nails have returned with their first new music in five years, releasing the single "As Alive As You Need Me To Be" as part of the soundtrack for the upcoming Disney sci-fi film "TRON: Ares," set for release in October 2025. The soundtrack, titled "TRON: Ares (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)," will be released globally on September 19 via Interscope Records and marks Nine Inch Nails' first-ever movie score, although band members Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have extensive experience composing film scores under their own names. The album promises a blend of analog soul and digital dread, matching the film's theme of AI meeting humanity, and continues Nine Inch Nails’ legacy of atmospheric, menacing music. Concurrently, the band is touring North America on the "Peel It Back" tour, which has included previously unperformed songs and will run through September with sold-out dates. "TRON: Ares" is directed by Joachim Rønning and stars Jared Leto, with a storyline about a sophisticated program sent from the digital world to the real world on a dangerous mission. The partnership between Nine Inch Nails and the "TRON" franchise highlights a synergy between the band's industrial sound and the film's futuristic narrative.
