Princess Royal Visits South Crofty Mine Following £57M UK Government Investment

Cornish Metals Inc. recently hosted Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal at its South Crofty tin project in Cornwall, United Kingdom, where a plaque was unveiled to mark the re-opening of the New Cook's Kitchen (NCK) shaft. The visit included tours of the workshop, water treatment plant, Winder House, and an underground trip via the mine shaft cage, highlighting the mine's geology, treatment processes, and new equipment. This event coincides with a significant £57.4 million fundraising effort, including a £28.6 million strategic investment from the UK Government’s National Wealth Fund. The reopening of the NCK shaft is a critical milestone enabling mine re-entry at lower levels, advancing Cornish Metals' goal to provide a secure, sustainable domestic supply of tin in the UK. Tin is classified as a critical mineral due to its vital role in electronics and energy transition technologies, yet Europe and North America currently lack primary tin production, with Asia dominating the global supply. South Crofty thus represents a strategic opportunity to reduce Western dependence on volatile international tin markets by establishing a long-term domestic source.
