Liam Shephard has rejoined Newport County on a one-year contract after being released by Salford City, marking his second spell with the club where he previously played in the 2020-21 season. Primarily a right-back, Shephard can also operate centrally and in midfield, offering versatility and experience to manager David Hughes's squad. Having stayed fit through a PFA training camp for unattached players, Shephard impressed Hughes with his professionalism, fitness, and technical ability, adding significant competition for places. Shephard expressed excitement about playing in front of Newport fans, as his first spell coincided with the Covid season, limiting his fan experience. His father, Garry Shephard, also has a strong legacy at Newport, having made 136 appearances and scored 47 goals for the club.
