Indianapolis Mass Shooting After July 4th Celebrations
A mass shooting in downtown Indianapolis early Saturday left two people dead, including at least one juvenile, and five others injured after Fourth of July celebrations. The attack happened near Washington and Illinois Streets as police responded to disturbances amid a crowd of hundreds of unsupervised youths. Several teenagers were among those shot, and seven people were detained for questioning, though no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Multiple firearms were recovered at the scene. City officials, including IMPD Chief Chris Bailey and Mayor Joe Hogsett, expressed frustration at recurring youth violence and announced new safety measures, such as increased surveillance and trooper presence. The shooting was part of a violent period in the city, with at least eight other people shot in separate incidents over the previous 24 hours.
