Ormat Extends Heber 1 Geothermal PPA with SCPPA to 2052

Ormat Technologies has signed a 25-year extension of its power purchase agreement with the Southern California Public Power Authority to supply 52 MW of geothermal energy from its Heber 1 facility, effective February 2026 and lasting until 2052. Located in Southern California's Imperial Valley, the Heber 1 plant recently completed a repowering project incorporating advanced air-cooled technology, boosting the Heber complex's total output to 91 MW of continuous, carbon-free electricity. This agreement will continue to provide clean, reliable baseload power to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and the Imperial Irrigation District, supporting over 77,000 Los Angeles households. Ormat's CEO Doron Blachar emphasized the deal's reflection of geothermal energy's promise and Ormat's capability to deliver renewable power at scale. Representatives from LADWP, SCPPA, and IID highlighted geothermal energy's role in strengthening grid stability, reducing fossil fuel dependence, and advancing California's climate and energy goals. The extension reinforces the strategic significance of geothermal power in achieving long-term energy security and environmental stewardship in the region.
