Big Bear Eaglets Named Sunny and Gizmo

The eaglets of the famous Big Bear bald eagles, Jackie and Shadow, have been named Sunny and Gizmo after a naming contest organized by the Friends of Big Bear Valley. Over 54,000 names were submitted, narrowed down to 30 finalists, and selected by local elementary school students from grades three to five. The eaglets hatched in early March, but unfortunately, a third eaglet named Misty did not survive a snowstorm. The naming contest and the ongoing live webcam of the eagles have captivated a global audience, highlighting the community's involvement in conservation efforts. The Friends of Big Bear Valley also honored a volunteer, Kathi Misterly, by naming the deceased eaglet Misty after her. The eaglets are expected to fledge in a few months, much like previous hatchlings observed in the nest.
