IIT Indore Develops Affordable Cancer Screening Device

IIT Indore has unveiled a compact and cost-effective cancer screening device utilizing photoacoustic technology, aimed at early detection of breast cancer, particularly in rural areas with limited healthcare resources. The innovative device, developed by Professor Srivathsan Vasudevan and collaborators from AIIMS Bhopal, reduces diagnostic costs to approximately one-tenth that of conventional methods. By employing Photoacoustic Spectral Response (PASR), the device analyzes tissue responses to distinguish between normal, benign, and malignant tissues. IIT Indore's Director, Suhas Joshi, emphasized the device's potential to enhance cancer detection in underserved regions, addressing critical gaps in India's healthcare system. This breakthrough is expected to significantly improve access to early cancer diagnosis, potentially saving many lives. The technology is poised for clinical trials at AIIMS Bhopal to validate its efficacy.
