Eight Sleep Raises $100M to Expand AI-Powered Sleep Tech
Eight Sleep, a New York-based startup specializing in AI-powered sleep technology, recently raised $100 million in a Series D funding round led by HSG, with participation from Valor Equity Partners, Founders Fund, Y Combinator, and notable athletes including Ferrari F1 driver Charles Leclerc and McLaren CEO Zak Brown. Founded in 2014, Eight Sleep has developed the Pod, a smart mattress that tracks sleep stages, heart rate, breathing patterns, and movements, and automatically adjusts temperature, elevation, and firmness to improve sleep quality. The company has generated over $500 million in Pod sales and expanded revenue tenfold since 2019, accumulating insights from more than one billion hours of sleep data. With approximately $260 million raised in total funding, Eight Sleep plans to expand internationally, including a launch in China, and is developing new features such as contactless sleep apnea detection and the Sleep Agent, an AI-driven system that creates digital twins to optimize individual recovery. Co-founder Alexandra Zatarain emphasized that successful execution of their AI roadmap and condition-specific interventions could lead to unicorn status. Eight Sleep also prioritizes user privacy by encrypting all data collected through its products.
