Stained Glass Mural Anchors New Utah Capitol Building

Utah's new North Capitol Building, set to open for the 2026 legislative session, will showcase a massive stained glass laylight created by Holdman Studios. Originally planned as suspended glass pieces, the project evolved into a mural of 89 panels with over 14,700 pieces, depicting symbols and landscapes from all 29 Utah counties. The $1.6 million installation measures 25 by 25 feet and is designed to interact with natural light, creating a dynamic visual experience. The mural symbolizes Utah’s unity, beauty, and legacy, with detailed references to state landmarks and natural features. The stained glass will serve as the centerpiece for the building’s atrium and as a focal point for Utah’s first state history museum, which will be housed in the same facility.
