High Court Maintains Black Country Street Racing Ban

The High Court has upheld an injunction banning street racing in the Black Country, initially granted in February 2024, after finding it to be 'very effective' during a recent review. The injunction, supported by the City of Wolverhampton Council and West Midlands Police, prohibits all forms of participation in street racing activities and includes strict penalties for violations, including possible imprisonment and asset seizure. Evidence presented indicated a significant reduction in street racing incidents, with a 38% decrease in complaints reported between 2023 and 2024, and seven individuals found in contempt of court for breaching the injunction in the past year. The injunction will remain in effect until at least 2027, subject to annual reviews. Officials emphasized the order's role in enhancing public safety and deterring criminal behavior associated with street racing. Minor wording amendments were made to the injunction during the latest court hearing to address the pressing need for its continuation.
