Severe Flooding Displaces Over 80,000 in Malaysia

Severe flooding in Malaysia has left three dead and displaced over 80,000 people across several states, with Kelantan and Terengganu being the hardest hit. The National Disaster Command Center reported that as of Friday morning, nearly 85,000 individuals have been evacuated to temporary shelters, and authorities anticipate this year's flooding could be the worst in a decade, surpassing the 2014 disaster that displaced nearly a quarter of a million people. Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has assured that extensive preparations are in place, with over 82,000 personnel and numerous rescue resources deployed to assist affected residents. Meanwhile, heavy rains are also impacting southern Thailand, where one death has been reported and over 2,700 people displaced, prompting school closures and extensive evacuation efforts. Both countries are bracing for continued adverse weather as the monsoon season progresses, raising concerns over safety and infrastructure.
