Chelsea, Man City, Newcastle Secure Champions League Spots
Chelsea secured a return to the Champions League after a two-year absence by defeating Nottingham Forest 1-0 on the final day of the Premier League season, with Levi Colwill scoring the decisive goal. The victory ensured Chelsea finished fourth in the league, while Nottingham Forest, who had been contenders for a Champions League spot for much of the season, ended seventh and will play in the UEFA Conference League. Manchester City and Newcastle United also clinched Champions League qualification, with City finishing third after a 2-0 win over Fulham and Newcastle securing fifth place on goal difference despite a loss to Everton. Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest missed out on Champions League qualification, dropping into the Europa League and Conference League respectively, with Aston Villa's hopes further hampered by a red card in their match against Manchester United. Chelsea's manager Enzo Maresca, despite criticism for conservative tactics, guided the team through a strong finish, winning five of their last six league matches and now aiming for silverware in the UEFA Conference League final. The Premier League will have nine teams in European competitions next season due to Tottenham's Europa League title and Crystal Palace's FA Cup victory.
