Poland Partners with BAE Systems to Expand 155mm Ammunition Production

Poland is significantly enhancing its defense capabilities through a collaboration with British defense firm BAE Systems to manufacture 155 mm artillery shells, addressing critical shortages impacting Ukraine and NATO allies. With a 2.4 billion zlotys investment, Poland plans to build three ammunition factories equipped with advanced technology transferred from BAE Systems, aiming to produce around 130,000 rounds annually within two years. This initiative not only strengthens Poland's national defense but also its contribution to NATO's eastern flank, especially in light of recent Russian drone incursions into Polish airspace. The partnership between BAE Systems and Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) will ensure long-term technological collaboration and reduce Poland's dependence on imported ammunition. The new ammunition plant is expected to be operational by 2027-28, supporting Europe's broader efforts to replenish and boost ammunition supplies amid ongoing conflict in Ukraine. These developments underscore Poland's growing role in European security and defense cooperation with the UK and NATO.
