Artist's Doodle Home Proposal Faces Backlash

Artist Sam Cox, known as Mr Doodle, is facing significant backlash from local residents and Lydd Town Council over his plans to build a three-bedroom bungalow in Dungeness, Kent, which would feature a rusted metal facade adorned with laser-cut doodles. Critics have labeled the proposal a 'vanity project' that lacks artistic integrity and connection to the area's historical and environmental context, with concerns raised about its potential impact on local wildlife and traffic. The council emphasized that the design does not align with the historical value of Dungeness, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest. Cox's architect, Guy Holloway, countered the objections by asserting that the design draws inspiration from the area's existing metal structures and will blend harmoniously with the landscape. The project aims to replace an existing home, but whether it will proceed remains uncertain amid community opposition.
