Average UK Advertised Salary Exceeds £40,000 for First Time

The average advertised salary in the UK has surpassed £40,000 for the first time, according to research from Adzuna, reflecting a rise from £37,577 over the past year. This increase is attributed to ongoing demand for skilled workers amid employer hesitancy in hiring, with two job seekers competing for every vacancy and the average time to fill positions extending to 34 days. Legal jobs were filled the quickest at 31 days, while roles in domestic help and healthcare took the longest. However, more than half of employers have omitted salary details from job postings, marking 2024 as the worst year for salary transparency on record. Adzuna's co-founder noted a decline in job vacancies, particularly in December, likely due to seasonal hiring slowdowns. Despite these challenges, there has been a notable increase in salaries, indicating that companies are willing to pay more for the right candidates.
