Narayana Murthy Advocates for Parental Discipline

Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy has ignited a debate by asserting that parents cannot expect their children to focus on studies while indulging in movies themselves. Speaking at an event in Bengaluru, he emphasized the importance of parents creating a disciplined environment at home, sharing that he and his wife, Sudha, dedicated over three and a half hours daily to reading with their children, Akshata and Rohan. They established a household routine where television was banned from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM and study sessions continued from 9 PM to 11 PM. Murthy criticized coaching classes as ineffective, arguing that they do not foster genuine learning and parental involvement is crucial. He stated that leadership by example is essential for instilling discipline in children, as parents must practice what they preach. Overall, his comments highlight the significant role of parental engagement in children's education amidst distractions like social media.
