3.2 Magnitude Earthquake Recorded Near Woodend
A 3.2 magnitude earthquake struck near Woodend, Victoria, at 10:45 AM, with an epicenter located in Lerderderg State Park, approximately 70 km northwest of Melbourne. The quake, recorded at a depth of 7 km, was felt by around 103 people, although no damage was reported by the Victorian State Emergency Service (VICSES). Some residents described the noise as a 'massive boom', while others reported no sensation of shaking. A minor aftershock of 1.6 magnitude was recorded shortly after the initial quake. This event follows a 3.6 magnitude mining-induced earthquake that occurred less than two weeks prior, although mining was not linked to this latest quake. Australia experiences about 100 earthquakes of magnitude three or larger annually, according to Geoscience Australia.
