Firefighting efforts continue on the Bulgarian-Greek border as a fire has spread approximately 70 to 100 decares into Bulgarian territory, significantly hampering operations due to rugged terrain and the presence of old minefields. Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev announced that two aircraft from France will join the efforts, while two Greek helicopters and two Bulgarian military helicopters are already in use. Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov emphasized the severity of the situation, noting the challenges posed by high temperatures and difficult access to the fire site. The area, mostly composed of declared reserves with ample dead wood, poses a long-term risk of re-ignition. Efforts to control the fire are ongoing, but the large perimeter and continuous smoldering present significant hurdles for the firefighters. Authorities warn that full extinguishment may only occur with heavy rainfall.
