Pelicans Sign Elfrid Payton to Camp Deal

The New Orleans Pelicans have signed veteran guard Elfrid Payton to a non-guaranteed training camp contract as they prepare for the upcoming NBA season. Payton, a Louisiana native, previously played for the Pelicans during the 2018-19 season, where he had a standout performance averaging 10.6 points, 7.6 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game. After being out of the NBA since the 2021-22 season, he has been working out at the Pelicans' practice facility, indicating his commitment to returning to the league. Alongside Payton, the Pelicans have also signed Izaiah Brockington on a similar deal. The training camp will take place in Nashville this year due to renovations at the team's practice facility in Metairie, Louisiana. With 14 players already under standard contracts, Payton faces competition to secure a spot on the final roster.
