Broncos Rally Past Giants, Honor Demaryius Thomas

Bo Nix led a dramatic comeback as the Denver Broncos rallied from a 0-19 deficit to defeat the New York Giants 33-32 on Oct. 19, throwing four touchdowns and setting up a 39-yard walk-off field goal by Wil Lutz after a missed extra point, moving Denver to 5-2 and atop the AFC West. The victory coincided with the Broncos' Alumni Weekend marking the 10th anniversary of their Super Bowl 50 team and featured the halftime induction of the late Demaryius Thomas into the franchise’s Ring of Fame and the unveiling of his pillar outside Empower Field. Thomas' parents, Katina Smith and Bobby Thomas, were emotional participants in the plaza ceremony, touched his bronze likeness and were presented his Ring of Fame jacket and ring at a private reception. Peyton Manning requested that Thomas' pillar sit next to his and praised Thomas as “every bit as good a human being as he was a player,” while coaches and teammates recalled his ever-present smile, leadership and unselfish nature. A 2010 first-round pick and five-time Pro Bowler known for key playoff performances, Thomas died in 2021 at age 33 after suffering a seizure and was later posthumously diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
