James Gunn Launches Unified DCU Reboot Starting Superman 2025

Warner Bros. Discovery has rebooted the DC Universe (DCU) under the leadership of co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, starting fresh with the 2025 release of Superman, starring David Corenswet. This new era, dubbed Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters," aims for a cohesive, interconnected universe spanning films, TV shows, and animation, including projects such as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, The Authority, Peacemaker Season 2, and Lanterns. Peacemaker's second season features John Cena reprising his role and ties directly into the new DCU continuity, while Viola Davis returns as Amanda Waller in a spinoff series. The Supergirl film, inspired by Tom King's comic, will showcase a darker take on the character, focusing on her quest for revenge alongside her dog Krypto. Additionally, the DCU will separate previous Snyderverse films into an "Elseworlds" category, distinct from the new canon, while other standalone films like The Batman will continue independently.
