Man Charged with Murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO

Luigi Mangione, 26, has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who was killed on December 4 in New York City. Mangione was arrested in Pennsylvania after a McDonald’s employee recognized him from police photos and alerted authorities; he was found with a ghost gun believed to be used in the murder and a handwritten manifesto expressing his anger towards corporate America. The manifesto included statements suggesting he felt justified in his actions, claiming, 'These parasites simply had it coming.' Despite Mangione's privileged background, having been educated at Ivy League institutions, his writings and online presence indicate a possible inclination towards violence. Investigators are working to determine the motive behind his specific targeting of Thompson, as no clear connection to UnitedHealthcare has been established. Mangione is currently awaiting extradition to New York, where further charges are expected.
