Man Charged in Flushing Stabbing-Arson Killing Woman
On Thursday afternoon at a home on Smart Street in Flushing, Queens, 27-year-old Weisheng Chen allegedly fatally stabbed his 50-year-old mother-in-law, Qiujin Shi, and wounded her 17-year-old son during a domestic dispute. Responding officers and firefighters found the house on fire after Chen allegedly set a mattress ablaze; the teen was hospitalized in stable condition while Shi later died at a hospital. Chen was found with self-inflicted wrist wounds, taken into custody and hospitalized in serious/critical condition, and has been charged by the NYPD with multiple counts including murder, arson, criminal possession of a weapon and assault. An off-duty Port Authority officer and other first responders rendered aid at the scene, the FDNY brought the blaze under control, and the investigation is ongoing; arraignment and attorney information have not been released.
