Singapore Teen Arrested for ISIS-Inspired Terror Plot

A 17-year-old Singaporean was arrested in August, just weeks before he planned to carry out an ISIS-inspired terror attack in Tampines, a busy suburb, during the school holidays. Influenced by extremist propaganda after Hamas' attack on Israel in 2022, the teen intended to use a kitchen knife or scissors to target non-Muslim males, practicing stabbing motions and aiming for the neck to ensure fatal injuries. He had become a staunch supporter of ISIS, pledging allegiance and aspiring to die as a martyr. The arrest under the Internal Security Act was described as a 'very close shave' by Law and Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam, highlighting the imminent threat. The teen, who acted alone due to failure in radicalizing others, was issued a two-year detention order. This incident underscores the challenges of online radicalization in Singapore.
