Blue Jays Place Gimenez on Injured List

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Andres Gimenez has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a quad strain, retroactive to Thursday, after initially leaving Wednesday’s game against the Angels with right quad tightness. Further imaging revealed the strain, sidelining Gimenez until at least May 18. Michael Stefanic has been called up from Triple-A to provide infield depth, while Ernie Clement is expected to see increased playing time at second base. Gimenez is batting .195 with a .575 OPS and three home runs this season. Manager John Schneider confirmed that Jose Urena will remain in the starting rotation. The Blue Jays are trying to end a three-game losing streak as they adjust to Gimenez's absence.
