Debate Continues Over Space Command Headquarters Site

The debate over the permanent location of the U.S. Space Command headquarters remains unresolved, as Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed a bipartisan resolution urging President Trump and defense officials to finalize the move to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. The resolution references reviews by the Department of Defense Inspector General and the Government Accountability Office, both ranking Huntsville highly for cost, infrastructure, and workforce quality. A recent Pentagon watchdog report, however, highlights concerns over potentially losing up to 1,000 civilian employees unwilling to relocate from Colorado and warns the move could take four years, possibly harming military readiness. Colorado officials argue that moving Space Command from Colorado Springs would disrupt operational capabilities and national security. The headquarters location has been politically contested since President Trump initially selected Alabama and President Biden later reversed the decision to keep it in Colorado. Both states continue to advocate for their sites as the decision remains under review.
