Packers Release Jaire Alexander, Eye Major Additions
The Green Bay Packers have released two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander after seven seasons, citing his persistent injuries, high salary, and a 2024 suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. The move saves the Packers approximately $17 million in salary cap space for 2025, raising their total cap space to over $46 million, among the highest in the NFL. Alexander, who played only 34 of 68 games since 2021, now becomes a free agent at age 28. He is expected to draw interest from several teams needing secondary help, including the Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins, and Washington Commanders. With the added financial flexibility, the Packers may pursue significant roster upgrades, such as a trade for Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson. The team remains focused on building a Super Bowl contender for the 2025 season.
