Ronnie Gibbons, former captain of Fulham's women’s team, has alleged that she was sexually assaulted twice by the late Mohamed Al Fayed in 2000 when she was just 20. Gibbons recounted that Al Fayed, then in his 70s, summoned her to his office at Harrods under the pretense of discussing football with his children, who were not present. During these encounters, she claims he attempted to forcefully kiss her and groped her, creating an intimidating atmosphere that left her feeling sick and powerless. Fulham FC expressed their deep empathy and support for Gibbons, stating they are investigating whether any club members were impacted by Al Fayed's actions. These allegations come amid a broader investigation by the Metropolitan Police into numerous sexual assault claims against Al Fayed, with 40 women coming forward since the BBC aired related testimonies. Gibbons hopes sharing her story will help her heal and highlight the issue of abuse in sports.
