Rivian Launches Google Maps-Powered EV Navigation System

Electric vehicle maker Rivian has partnered with Google Maps to develop a new navigation system that integrates Google Maps Auto SDK while preserving Rivian’s unique design and EV-specific features. This collaboration provides Rivian drivers with up-to-date routing, traffic insights, estimated time of arrivals, and real-time alerts about road disruptions, enhancing trip planning and driving reliability. The system includes EV-tailored functionalities such as range-on-arrival estimates, charging stop planning, and a charging scores system, directly addressing common EV road trip concerns like battery range and charger availability. Rivian Navigation also enables users to tap on points of interest to access detailed information like hours, ratings, photos, and satellite imagery, available both in-car and through Rivian’s mobile app. This partnership reflects a broader trend of automakers integrating Silicon Valley technology while maintaining their brand identity, with Google collaborating with other manufacturers to create custom navigation experiences. The update is rolling out now to all Rivian pickup and SUV owners, promising a seamless and enhanced in-car navigation experience.
