Google updates Gmail with Material Design 3, customizable layouts

Google is rolling out significant updates to Gmail across both iOS and Android platforms. iPhone and iPad users are receiving the long-awaited Material Design 3 update, aligning Gmail's look and feel with its Android and web counterparts, including new pill-shaped buttons and a blue accent color. Android tablets and foldable devices now feature an adjustable dual-pane layout, allowing users to customize how much space their inbox or messages occupy, while Google Chat receives similar enhancements. Both Android and iOS Gmail apps are also gaining Gemini's AI-powered image generator in the side panel, enabling users to create, save, or insert images directly into emails. Additionally, iOS users can now create and modify birthday events in Google Calendar through the Gmail app, a feature previously available only on Android. These updates are designed to modernize the user experience and enhance productivity for Workspace and personal account users alike.
