Biddeford Police Sgt. Jacob Wolterbeek Dies in Crash
Sergeant Jacob Wolterbeek, a 41-year-old officer with the Biddeford Police Department, tragically died in a traffic accident early Thursday morning on the Piscataqua River Bridge while returning home from his shift. Wolterbeek's Toyota Camry collided with the rear of a box truck that was stopped in traffic due to an earlier incident on the New Hampshire side of the bridge. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and traffic was disrupted for several hours as authorities conducted their investigation. Wolterbeek, an 18-year veteran of the police force, is survived by his wife and three young children. In a show of solidarity, law enforcement from across Maine participated in a procession to honor him, with first responders standing on overpasses along the route. Biddeford Police Chief JoAnne Fisk expressed her condolences, describing Wolterbeek as a respected member of the department and emphasizing the community's support for his family during this difficult time.
