Richardson, McNeeley Go in NBA Draft First Round
Michigan State freshman guard Jase Richardson was selected 25th overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2025 NBA Draft, becoming the 12th first-round pick under coach Tom Izzo and continuing his father Jason Richardson's legacy. Richardson averaged around 12 points per game, shot over 41% from three, and helped lead MSU to a Big Ten championship and Elite Eight appearance after becoming a midseason starter. UConn freshman Liam McNeeley was taken 29th overall by the Phoenix Suns before being traded to the Charlotte Hornets. McNeeley, a McDonald’s All-American and Big East Freshman of the Year, averaged 14.5 points per game and broke the UConn freshman scoring record. Both Richardson and McNeeley were celebrated one-and-done college stars recognized for their rapid development and high-level performances in key games. Their draft selections highlight NBA teams' continued focus on versatile, high-upside young talent.
