Grandfather Mountain mourns bald eagle Ajax's death at 11

Ajax, an 11-year-old bald eagle residing at Grandfather Mountain, North Carolina, has died due to complications from an infection. Rescued from a Florida golf course in 2015 with severe injuries that made him unable to survive in the wild, Ajax found a permanent home at the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation. Known for his vocal nature and regal presence, Ajax was named after a Greek warrior due to his spirited behavior during his initial examinations. He lived alongside another eagle, Griffin, and was a favorite among visitors for his chatty demeanor. The foundation, which cares for animals unable to return to the wild, is accepting donations in his memory to support other resident animals.
