Korean American Federation Slams Trump Jr. Reckless Social Media Post Amid LA Immigration Crackdown
The Korean American Federation of Los Angeles has strongly criticized Donald Trump Jr. for posting a photo on social media referencing the 'Rooftop Koreans' during the 1992 Los Angeles riots, calling his comments reckless and urging him not to exploit the community's historical trauma. The federation expressed concern over recent immigration enforcement actions by the U.S. administration, which they say lacked due legal procedures and have negatively impacted their businesses. The post, which featured an armed Korean American on a rooftop, was seen as mocking current unrest and risking further tensions, especially given Trump Jr.'s influence as the eldest son of the current president with millions of followers. Photojournalist Kang Hyung-won, who originally took the rooftop photo, disapproved of its use without permission and out of context. The 1992 events saw members of the Korean American community defending their stores due to insufficient law enforcement protection after the police beating of Rodney King. The federation emphasized the importance of not exploiting past trauma during ongoing unrest and crackdowns in Los Angeles.
