Joe Kent, director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), has been investigating the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, examining FBI files to determine if the accused killer, Tyler Robinson, had support from foreign or domestic groups. This inquiry reportedly caused concern within the FBI, led by Director Kash Patel, who believed Kent was overstepping his role and potentially interfering with the case. Despite reports of tension between the FBI and NCTC, sources have downplayed these claims as exaggerated, with both agencies issuing a joint statement emphasizing their collaboration and shared commitment to national security. The issue was significant enough to prompt a White House meeting involving Patel, Kent, Vice President JD Vance, and other senior officials. Robinson faces multiple charges including aggravated murder at the state level, with possible future federal charges. Kent, confirmed as NCTC director in July and an adviser to Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, is credited by supporters for thoroughly pursuing leads without compromising the FBI's investigation.
