Man Charged After Liverpool Soccer Parade Crash Injures 79
Paul Doyle, a 53-year-old man from West Derby, Liverpool, has been charged with seven serious offenses following the incident where his car plowed into a crowd celebrating Liverpool Football Club’s Premier League title win, injuring 79 people. The charges include dangerous driving, unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and attempted grievous bodily harm. The victims ranged in age from nine to 78, with seven individuals remaining hospitalized in stable condition. Police believe Doyle was able to bypass a roadblock by following an ambulance responding to a medical emergency, and they have ruled out terrorism, stating the act was isolated and that Doyle acted alone. Authorities are reviewing extensive video footage and witness statements as the prosecution is still at an early stage, with Doyle scheduled to appear in Liverpool Magistrates’ Court. Officials have called for the public to allow the judicial process to proceed without speculation to ensure justice for the victims.
