Pakistani Tycoon Mansha Partners with Chery for $100M EV Plant in Pakistan

Prominent Pakistani businessman Mian Mohammad Mansha, through his Nishat Group and its subsidiary NexGen Auto Pvt. Ltd., is partnering with China's Chery Automobile Company to initiate local electric vehicle (EV) assembly in Pakistan. The venture involves a $100 million investment and plans to launch five EV models under Chery’s Omoda and Jaecoo brands, with production starting in October 2025. This collaboration was chosen after a strategic visit to China, highlighting China's leadership in EV technology and cost efficiency. Pakistan's EV market has been rapidly expanding, with several Chinese companies like BYD and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation already active or planning local production. The Pakistani government aims for EVs to comprise 30% of all vehicles by 2030 and is offering incentives such as reduced electricity rates at charging stations, though industry leaders urge faster policy implementation and expanded infrastructure licensing. The Nishat Group, already established in sectors like textiles and automotive sales with Hyundai, views this EV partnership as a significant diversification aligned with Pakistan's clean transportation goals.
