German Customs Seize 1,500 Tarantulas at Airport

German customs officials at Cologne-Bonn airport intercepted a shipment from Vietnam containing about 1,500 young venomous tarantulas concealed in plastic tubes and hidden inside chocolate spongecake boxes. The 7-kilogram shipment was discovered after officers noticed a strange smell coming from the package. Many of the spiders did not survive the journey, and the survivors were handed over to professional handlers.
