Turkey Reports Hamas to Transfer Gaza Control to Palestinian Committee
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that Hamas is ready to transfer governance of Gaza to a Palestinian committee, marking a significant step toward Palestinian self-governance and reconstruction. This development follows a meeting in Istanbul involving ministers from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Jordan, Pakistan, and Indonesia, who collectively endorsed the plan and discussed forming a UN-backed international stabilization force for Gaza. Turkey, alongside Qatar, has played a key role in persuading Hamas to accept the ceasefire terms, which include Hamas and other factions relinquishing control and disarming, although Hamas has yet to fully commit to disarmament. Despite ongoing ceasefire violations and Israeli opposition to Turkey's participation in the proposed peacekeeping force, the agreement signals a fragile but promising move toward stabilizing Gaza. Turkey coordinated with Egypt ahead of the talks, underscoring regional diplomatic efforts to enforce the ceasefire and facilitate humanitarian aid. The international community continues to monitor the situation as discussions about troop deployments and Gaza's future administration progress.
