Jaroslav Halak Retires After 17 NHL Seasons
Veteran NHL goaltender Jaroslav Halak has officially announced his retirement at age 40, concluding a 17-year career across seven teams. Halak recorded 295 wins, a .915 save percentage, a 2.50 goals-against average, and 53 shutouts in 581-585 NHL games. Drafted 271st overall by Montreal in 2003, he also played for the St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals, New York Islanders, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks, and New York Rangers, finishing his NHL tenure with the Rangers in 2022-23. Halak is renowned for leading the Canadiens to the 2010 Eastern Conference Final and twice winning the William M. Jennings Trophy. Internationally, he represented Slovakia at the Olympics and World Championships, and helped Team Europe reach the 2016 World Cup final. Expressing gratitude to his family and supporters, Halak reflected with satisfaction on his career despite narrowly missing 300 wins.
