Daniels Ruled Out; Mariota Throws Pick-Six

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a right hamstring injury on a sack by Cowboys rookie Shemar James early in the third quarter, appeared to twist his leg while fumbling, was evaluated in the medical tent, taken to the locker room and ruled out for the remainder of the game. Daniels completed 12-of-22 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown and rushed eight times for 35 yards before exiting; through five games he has completed 61% of his passes for 1,031 yards, eight touchdowns and one interception. Marcus Mariota replaced Daniels with 7:44 left in the third and on his first series threw a pick-six as Washington trailed; Mariota is expected to continue if Daniels misses additional time. The injury compounds a depleted Washington offense that was already missing Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel and Noah Brown and now must cope with running back Austin Ekeler being out for the season. The team now prepares for a road game at the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 27.
