Developers plan new homes on former pub, historic sites
The site of the former Happy Wanderer pub in Bilston, Wolverhampton, previously plagued by arson and anti-social behavior, has been transformed into new affordable housing. Black Country Housing Group, in partnership with Keon Homes and the City of Wolverhampton Council, has completed 19 energy-efficient homes—13 houses and six flats—intended for affordable rent. The project is part of the council’s broader initiative to bring derelict sites back into use and support the local community. Officials and developers highlighted the positive community impact, emphasizing the provision of high-quality, family-friendly homes and the revitalization of a formerly neglected area. The first nine homes have been handed over, with tenants set to move in soon. The development is hailed as a model for addressing housing needs while reducing environmental impact.
