Chicago Fire defeats Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1, ends perfect start
In a decisive match on Saturday night, the Chicago Fire handed the Vancouver Whitecaps their first loss of the MLS season with a 3-1 victory at BC Place. Hugo Cuypers opened the scoring just 53 seconds into the game, while Daniel Rios equalized for Vancouver in the 15th minute. Chicago's Philip Zinckernagel scored the winning goal in the 62nd minute and assisted Cuypers, and Rominique Kouame sealed the victory with a goal in stoppage time. The loss marks the first for the Whitecaps in nine matches across all competitions this season, although they remain first in the Western Conference with 12 points. Chicago's win moves them into fifth place in the Eastern Conference. The match was also notable for the familial connection between Vancouver midfielder Sebastain Berhalter and Chicago coach Gregg Berhalter.
